Sunset by the Beach
I guess I have been a bit of a slack person lately, not blogging for the past week. Work has been getting busier each day, with new problems and issues discovered everyday and the new system implementation getting closer and closer, hence the conclusion of my contract. Apart from work, I also had to do some housework in preparation for my brother and Sharon’s arrival.
On Sunday, during our barbecue at my Aunt Em’s place, I made another mistake again. I was trying to introduce Sharon to a family friend and I was trying to say that she is my brother’s fiancee and they are going to wed in December. Fiancee in Cantonese should be 未婚妻, but I told them that she was his 前妻. As soon as the word 前妻 flew out my mouth, everybody laughed and I was so embarrassed. It is not the first time I said the wrong thing in Chinese. I was born in Hong Kong, I was grown up speaking Cantonese everyday, I watch TV shows in Cantonese and I count in Cantonese. I even get confusioned with the words left (左) and right (右). It’s so easy to make simple mistakes in cantonese.
According to AppleInsider, Apple is planning its second store at the current Fun Factory site in South Yarra, Victoria, Australia:
The plan, which got underway last year, calls for the demolition of the historic but under-utilized Fun Factory building on the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street in the city’s South Yarra suburb. Developers want to replace the structure with a three-building, mixed-use development complex comprised of ground level retail shops, a hotel and a high-rise apartment building.
This would be so interesting. As a kid, I grew up playing in the amusement arcade and going indoor roller blading there. Then I saw the opening of Johnny Rockets cafe (now Soda Rock) and watching the games arcade close down. Now, it’s just a random piece of building that looks unaesthetic and is affecting the look of the Chapel Street/Toorak Road intersection.
Thanks to the bushfires in Northeastern Victoria. The EPA is detecting PM10 levels of over 100 micrograms per cubic metre and most of Melbourne is covered in smoke full of random particles. I cannot even see the buildings in the CBD even from Richmond Station.
The smoke is infiltrating every building around here - the shops, the garage, the bedroom, the bathroom and particulates are probably accumulating in my lungs.
WTF!!!? I hate this. Can someone please generate some winds that will blow the smoke away or import some fresh air from elsewhere???
