I guess I have been a bit of a slack person lately, not blogging for the past week. Work has been getting busier each day, with new problems and issues discovered everyday and the new system implementation getting closer and closer, hence the conclusion of my contract. Apart from work, I also had to do some housework in preparation for my brother and Sharon’s arrival.
On Sunday, during our barbecue at my Aunt Em’s place, I made another mistake again. I was trying to introduce Sharon to a family friend and I was trying to say that she is my brother’s fiancee and they are going to wed in December. Fiancee in Cantonese should be 未婚妻, but I told them that she was his 前妻. As soon as the word 前妻 flew out my mouth, everybody laughed and I was so embarrassed. It is not the first time I said the wrong thing in Chinese. I was born in Hong Kong, I was grown up speaking Cantonese everyday, I watch TV shows in Cantonese and I count in Cantonese. I even get confusioned with the words left (左) and right (右). It’s so easy to make simple mistakes in cantonese.
