The KK experience

krispykreme.png

I have heard lots about Krispy Kreme over the past few years and new stores have opened in Melbourne, including one at Fountain Gate and one in the CBD. Today I visited Chadstone today and I saw a new Krispy Kreme store standing at the Warrigal Road entrance to the shopping centre. I’ve never actually tried any of the doughnuts myself, so I queued up to buy some despite a power blackout in most of the shops near that area.

This hype is ridiculous - people go in to get boxes of doughnuts. But I still queued anyway, because I love food!!!

5 minutes later, I got into the store - despite lights out, they are still selling..

Then some krispy kreme person comes out and says “Sorry, we are not serving anymore. The cash register has just gone off”.

I was a bit disappointed.

HK style snacks…

I love HK style snack food. Everytime I visit HK, I would indulge myself in curry fishballs on skewers, red bean ice creams, sweet condensed milk with peanut butter on toast, HK style milk tea, mixed milk tea and coffee, wonton noodles, the curry radish/turnip/pig skin and cart noodles. And here is another favourite - the Gei Dan Tsai. Gei Dan Tsai - one of my vivid memories was when I tripped over (or PK-ed) in HK while me and my brother were fighting over a bag of Gei Dan Tsai.

Perfect lunch

It was hard just deciding what I was going to have for lunch yesterday because there are so many cafes and restaurants in Glen Waverley. Chinese food was already eliminated from my list of options as I have had enough of it already, so the only other options were Mocha Joes, Purple Stone and Shine Cafe. After 10 minutes of wondering along Kingsway, I ended up going to the Shine cafe.

I had chicken and advocado, melted with morzella cheese with Turkish bread and sweet and sour sauce and green salad. Smelled so nice and it was warm when it was served.

Yum Cha - again and again

Since my parents went back to Hong Kong over a week ago, I went out dining with Teresa and her parents for most of the time. What did we have? Yum cha at Syndal every second day! Perhaps Yum Cha once a fortnight seems reasonable for an ordinary Chinese family, but I can’t stand having Yum Cha for almost everyday of the week. Imagine having prawn dumplings and steamed buns four times a week? It’s like having McDonalds for most days of the week. I couldn’t object to Yum Cha because Aunty and Uncle Ho have the odd habit of having Yum Cha every lunch. Now that Aunty and Uncle Ho have gone back to HK, I can have Yum Cha free lunches for the next two weeks. And hopefully, I will not have to go to Yum Cha during my time in Hong Kong.

Lunch fresh from the local Cafe

A nice, creamy Flat white ($2.90). One teaspoon of sugar was needed to make it sweet.

…and a crumbly, mouthwatering ham focaccia (ham, cheese, tomato and dijonnaise) ($8). The only thing missing in it was lettuce or rocket.
