Masters
I earn a reasonable amount of money, I have friends and I have a job. Yet I still feel stupid. Every week, I go to work, say hi to my colleagues and do my own thing. Then I have lunch (usually at my desk so I can go on the internet at the same time) and do more work in the afternoon. At 5pm, I say bye to my colleagues, and head home. At work, all I do is data input into the GIS system and making odd phone calls to follow up on data issues. At home, I do nothing but think randomly and procrastinate. On weekends, I either go out with friends, stay at home, or walk in circles around the city. After some deep thinking, chanting and reading Buddhist articles, I realised that in order to get a permanent job and to further my career in the GIS, I will need an appropriate qualification.
I have been considering to do a higher degree since the end of last year, but I never really looked into it. I have decided that I want to do a Masters in Geographic Information Technology at The University of Melbourne. The University of Melbourne is probably the only place that offers a good solid course structure in GIS at a postgrad level. But before I rush to apply for this course, I need some advice on funding and where this will take me in my career. I don’t want to make the wrong choice again and do something that I won’t even use. So if anyone can give me some advice please please please leave your comments here….

If you want to study, keep your job and study part time. That way, even if the study turns out not all that pointful, you’re still gaining experience / opportunities from work.

Thanks Rohan. I think I will try studying part time and work full time. But first, I gotta look for a perm job.
