Tantrum on the Bus: Part 2

The video clip on youtube that I mentioned a few days ago has now captured the international media. It’s even on wikipedia. People must have nothing better to do in Hong Kong - putting in subtitles, making music video remixes of it and even producing sequels from the original.

Actually, I’ve been checking EastSouthWestNorth everyday since I saw the clip to see if the blogger on the site has translated related articles from Chinese media because it does a pretty good job on translating news-worthy articles.

Some of the best quotes out of it include:

“Don’t call me boss - the world is fair and we don’t know each other”
(That guy’s quite right - we are all considered as an equal since we don’t know each other. Labelling people doesn’t resolve the problem - it only makes it worse).

“You and I both face pressure. We are all stressed in this society. Then why did you provoke me?”
(I definitely agree with this comment. Hong Kong is a stressful society with long working hours (from nine till six for five days a week plus Saturday mornings), heavy traffic congestion, air pollution and noise pollution. Plus it’s densely populated and almost everybody that lives there can’t afford to waste a minute of their time especially in the early rush hour. To some degree, stress can be taken as an excuse to release anger at people because I do it sometimes, but swearing repeatedly is just rude.

“It’s not yet resolved!”

It was only a minor incident that started out with a young adult tapping on the so-called “Bus Uncle’s” shoulder, yet the reaction can be so big that even profits can be made from it.

Personal Update

I haven’t been sick and I am not depressed. The reason that I haven’t been blogging for the past week is because I couldn’t think of anything to post and I have been busy trying to get mapping done for my thesis. I am a year older from the last time I blogged, which makes me 21 but nothing’s changed and life goes on anyway. Being 21 is supposed to be a big thing in Australia and people hold big celebrations for 21st birthday parties. Yet, I don’t see anything different from any other birthdays. A birthday marks the anniversary of one’s life and it’s just an excuse to celebrate, have dinner and so on. But for me, it’s just another day of life. Maybe I am just indifferent. Despite this attitude and my reluctance to make birthdays big, my friends from university had organised a birthday dinner last night and spent a lot of time and effort to get me a birthday cake. I was grateful about it, but on the other hand, I felt uneasy because they had to give up other commitments. Anyway, the dinner went on quite well although our conversation ended up as a weird philosophical discussion on science and why some countries reject Chinese medicine because of it.

Being a year older doesn’t mean anything to me, but it’s only a year, minute and a second closer to the end of life. I am not being a pessimist, but a realist.

Sudoku

More recently, I have started learning how to solve Sudoku, a puzzle craze that hit Australia a few years ago and it’s being so popular that my brother wants to import Sudoku gadgets from Hong Kong. Sudoku can be quite easy to solve if only logic but no wild guesses is used, but one can spend hours on more difficult puzzles. I tend to avoid using timers when solving a Sudoku puzzle because I don’t work as well under pressure, but others like timing themselves to watch their improvement over time.

My dad got into Sudoku too after watching me play it for several days. He reckons that he can write a Sudoku program on Lotus 1-2-3 and publish a book on it. But who uses Lotus spreadsheets anyway?

I have been getting more and more addicted to Sudoku and spend up to 2 am in the morning just to finish one puzzle. And I have to admitt that it’s one of the best distraction from study and work!

The usual procrastination rant:

Productivity is dampened by:
- Pokemon Leaf Green on my GBA emulator (I never feel embarrassed about this, although I prefer not to talk about it in front of my friends)

- Sudoku

- And preparing for mother’s day breakfast. I was going to plan for homemade bacon and eggs for mum, but we ended up going out to Milano’s for brunch. And….

- Net Surfing - for news, gadgets and harry potter news.

Tantrum on the bus…

Warning: This video contains some obscene language. Play at your own risk.

….That was strange. The younger fella didn’t know what he was doing and had such a stupid mind that provoked that middle aged man because he was loud on the phone. The middle aged man - he was losing his temper because of one little thing. Fair enough - he was angry, mad and being uncivilised. But that youngester should also be responsible for the incident - he should have just ignored him or got someone to notify the bus driver. I feel sorry not for the teen, but for everybody else who had to put up with all that crap that guy was on about.

And by the way, this was on a bus in Hong Kong…

This teaches us a lesson: Never provoke people on public transport in Hong Kong
