Clash fixed.
Remeber the clash in my timetable on wednesdays 12 pm? It is now fixed!.
I emailed the lecturer about it and asked if the lecture notes are posted on the net or if they are recorded. She replied and told me that she has applied to have the lectures recorded. It had taken only 2-3 days to fix the problem. I found out about the clash when my timetable released on tuesday, emailed the lectures the same day and got replies the day before. Last night, I checked the lectures online system and the unit (where I have clashes with) is listed.
Quick and easy! That is why I like the internet so much! If I didn’t have the net, then it would take ages to get it fixed.
Not donating anymore…
I totally agree with this one on TheAge.com. We have had phone calls from marketers of non-profit organisations asking us to donate (mostly by credit card) to charity. This mostly occurs in the evening when we are cooking, watching the most intense moment on TV or other things that we are busy with. Another way these people “sell” their organisations is in shopping centres or at O-week (orientation).
I remebered back in 2003, I got persuaded into joining the wilderness society. I was browsing through the stalls at the mini market area at uni and I started looking through the brochers and the pamflets at the wilderness society stall and one of the marketers asked me if I wanted to join and donate. They started to say things about the plight of the Tasmanian forests and so fourth. Although I am very supportive of environmental stuff, I was reluctant to donate because I have no steady income (expect for the pocket money that dad gave me occasionally) and mostly I didn’t really know what they would do with the moeny everybody was giving. I somehow gave them my phone number without thinking (what a stupid decision I made) and the marketer kept calling me. I thought the only way to stop her calling me was to join and donate.
Firstly I thought I was doing something for the environment by donating three bucks a week, which I now think I was wrong because I wasn’t being active enough to positively help the environment and that I was contributing money to useless protests. I donated $3 each week, which amounted to about $180 a year. I couldn’t cancel my membership until this month because I agreed to donate for a year. $180 is a lot of money to me as I have no income. Now I am happy that I am not donating anymore.
I learnt a big lesson from this:
1) Don’t put your email address in any mailing list that is associated with charity and environmental organisations unless you really want to
2) Don’t give out your phone number to any organisation (in case marketers get it)
3) Say no firmly when being asked to donate when you don’t want to
It is not just non-profit organisations that annoy us. We often get phone calls from banking companies: “Hi, this is [such and such] calling from [banking company]… are you interested in getting a [home loan/credit card, etc]?” . The worst kind of telemarketing call is the automated ones. Pick up a phone when it rings and then you hear some kind of answering machine selling their product.
Panther always thinks that my shuffle is disconnected even though I haven’t removed it from my ibook. Its probably just a bug..
Shuffle.
Horray!! I got my shuffle! I thought it would take a month to arrive but Applecentre called in to say it was in. I rushed to Chaddy from monash not long after 2 and got my 512 mb ipod. I have been fiddling with the receipt a bit and now I lost it. It seems that I need to get another one.
