JKrowling site…

The “do not disturb” sign on the door of jkrowling.com was removed a few days ago. It took me ages to fiddle with the bricks on the walls to get the correct sequence so that I could find the title of book 6, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. First I thought, would the half blood prince be You-Know-Who, but then JK Rowling said it wasn’t him. Now I am getting suspicious about Mark Evans who was mentioned in the Order of the Phoenix. We will have to wait and see…

Gmail Spam…

In recent weeks, my orkut inbox and discussion threads in orkut communities have been swamped with gmail begging messages. I find this extremely annoying. Yahoo and Hotmail will be/already had extended the email storage limit. What is this about the gmail hype? I know that I was one of those people who wanted gmail, but I would never ask for it. Patience is the key.

Harry Potter and PoA

I have seen the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at last. I know it is a bit too late posting comments about the movie, since many people have already seen it, but I will still give my own thoughts about it.

The third instalment in the Harry Potter series seems to be a bit darker, but not as dark as I thought it would be. The characters, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint who portrayed the characters Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley respectively, have done a good job, however, (as my friends and I have discussed after the movie). However, Tom Felton (as Draco Malfoy) and his lack of arrogance in the movie and his “babyish” reaction to incidents shown in the movie seemed to be out of character. Draco was more arrogant in the other two movies. I should also note that Tom Felton may be a bit too old to play the thirteen year old character.

The thing that I found a bit annoying was the subtle romance between Ron and Hermione in the film. There was no mention about the hand-holding between the two and the hugging in the book, but it was somehow included in the movie. This element in the story would be better if it started in the fourth movie, as shown in the novel.

As for the adult roles, the new characters - Sirius Black, Lupin and Trelawney were quite good. Michael Gambon, on the other hand, who replace the late Richard Harris as Dumbledore; his acting was good, but he lacked the old, crunchy voice that Richard Harris had.

This movie had a lot of action in it, but it lacked the some of the details that may be essential to the character development of Harry Potter - such as the appearance of Cho and Cedric. Things also seemed to be a bit out-of-order in this movie - like the scene where Harry receives the Firebolt, is placed at the end of the movie, rather than in the middle of the story as it is shown in the book.

Overall, this is quite a good movie with my favourite being the Marauders maps scene with Harry Potter and the twins. I would recommend it to everyone who likes adventurous films. Rating = 70%.

iBook

I finally made my way to the Apple Centre down at Chadstone during the afternoon, after my dad promised to get me an iBook two months ago. During the last two months, I had to behave well and study hard for the exams, as my dad said he only paid for it after my exams. Now that I have finished my exams, we went down to Chadstone to buy it, but the sales assistant there said that we have to order it and get it at least two weeks later. In two weeks time, I will be ditching the old windows system - no more chinese interfaces, which I can’t read.
