Hong Kong - a place full of copycats….

There are a lot of copy-cats in the entertainment industry of Hong Kong. I have Chinese TV on Satellite here, which shows drama and other shows from the TVB channel in Hong Kong. What really annoys me when watching Hong Kong style TV is that the amount of “cloning” they have in ads, MTVs and even in dramas. Here is a list of shows and MTV they stole from other countries:

1) One of the songs sung by Joey Yung (in Cantonese) - the melody was copied from Jennifer Paige’s Crush

2) Healing Hands - A drama show in Hong Kong - They copied the original version of ER

3) Automatic - sung by Kelly Chan (in Chinese) - Here again, they copied the melody off Utada Hikaru’s Automatic (in Japanese).

4) An ad for a recent Chinese drama - Another clone of a western movie - Charlie’s Angels….

I don’t know why Hong Kongers like to copy stuff from other movies. The lack of creativity in Hong Kong’s entertainment industry really disappoints me.

The Downside of Environmental Science and Environmentalism

I am beginning to sense that environmentalism is actually a very pessimistic topic. I don’t see things in the deep green ecological way and I am not fully an environmentalist. Maybe I am somewhere in between the ecology side of things and the human-centered side of things - I don’t know.. But for one thing I am pretty sure of is that environmental science (the course that I am studying now) is making me feel pessimistic about the future. Some environmental science subjects that I have taken so far, are showing only the negative side of the future environment and that us humans are the only ones to blame for. This is making me feel a bit depressed. Today, the lecturer was making a comment about “The day after Tomorrow” movie and I read an article about it in the entertainment section of The Age. I really hope this won’t be turning into a documentary.. I fear such environmental problems (fierce storms, hailstorms, etc) already and I don’t want to experience it.

Not as bad as I expected

Today I got my essay back on Environmental Policy and Management. I don’t like the subject much because I hate law and political-related stuff. As with most assignments I do, whether it is at school or uni, I get very nervous, despite I pass with an “ok” mark in the past.

I was suprised to get an HD for the essay, because I went over the word limit and I haven’t been doing well in the pracs. Maybe I have been doing assignments on the same topic for past 4 years - since year 10. I remembered I did a very similar assignment in year 12 for a VCE geography SAC on policy and management of greenhouse issues. I think I will have to challange myself a bit, do the next assignment on another topic and not to just worry about the marks.

Melburnian Winter…

The weather has suddenly changed from a not-so-cold autumn type weather to a wet, windy, freezing winter. Temperatures have plunged to 14 degrees during the day and a minimum of 8 at night, according to BOM. Winter has arrived!!! Winter is not my favourite season and neither is summer. Its too cold in winter and it feels dark and gloomy. Summer in Melbourne is too dry and hot, except for the occasional sea breezes that blow across the city. My favorite seasons are autumn and spring. Autumn, the season when some leaves change from green to yellow to red and cool weather. Spring - when things brighten up a bit and also the time when flowers and butterflies start to pop around.
